ARCH 1162 - "Bricks as Image" part 4 (104 George Street Sydney New South Wales)

This building is primarily focused on the English style brick layout. Different types of bricks were also used throughout the building to achieve different colours for decoration reasons. The arch of the building is the semi circular arch for the symmetrical and circular feeling.
We could see from the exterior of the building the bricks used were done in different repetitive layers of sandstone and masonry bricks. This will also create a repetition in colour throughout the whole building.
The arch present in this building provides a circular walkway into the building making the atmosphere very welcoming. The idea of symmetry also runs through the building. The symmetry creates harmony around the building making it seem like a proportionally balanced building.
The bricks within this building could be both structural and decorative however over the years the interior materials have changed. Like in the images you could see plaster walls within the building. That could mean that the building could been through state of the art upgrades since when it was being built.

ARCH 1162 - "Bricks as Image" part 3 (1 Hickson Road, The Rocks, Sydney, NSW)

From this building many different forms of brick work could be seen. From the interior to the exterior most of the building is covered with bricks.
The main type of bonding used is the English Styled bond. As we can see from the photos the bricks colour vary a lot unlike the building from before. This variety of colour is used for aesthetic purposes. It will be more attractive towards the eye compared to the dull single coloured buildings.
The interior of the building consist of masonry bricks and sandstone bricks. In the centre of the building sandstone bricks could be seen for support while side walls are primarily constructed from masonry bricks. It could also be seen that the brick work within the building had be repaired many times with different sized bricks and different types of bricks.
The arch style of the building is segmental arch. The shape of the arch reflects with the geometry of the window and the clay frames. The image will give the building a earth like feeling.

ARCH 1162 - "Bricks as Image" part 2 (17-27 Circular Quay West, The Rocks, Sydney, NSW)

The interior of this building is decorated with a brick touch however as we could see on the left hand side of the image, brick isnt the primary construction material. The main construction material looks like sandstone bricks.

The bricks within the building vary in colour and stand around the walls of the interior. They create a bond with the tile floors to provide a clay and stone image which presents customer to the restaurant with a rich and cultural atmosphere.

In this photo it could be seen the bricks were used with big sandstone blocks. The block were probally incorporated for support reasons. The bricks around were maintained in order to provide a consistent brick image.

There is an example of the brick layering in an arc across the window. The tiled segmental arch provides a beautiful touch to the exterior appearance of the building.

The brick work could be seen over the entire terrace. The consistency and rich touch of the bricks in the area amplifies the cultural atmosphere at the rocks.

From the building different methods of construction could be seen. From the photos we can witness the cross over from mansory bricks to sandstone bricks. It seems from the building the sandstone bricks were used for the base of the building and used to support the masonary bricks on the upper levels. Mansonary bricks building have a certain height limit before it will become dangerous therefore sandstone brcks are used to elevate it to a certain height.
Masonary bricks in this building is also used for decoration purposes. The overhangs and extrusions where all made from bricks. This will give a uniform image throughout the whole building which will emphasise the ideas of minimalism. The type of bond used is the English Styled bond with different sized bricks on every row. The arch stlye used in this building is the segemental arch. The styles fit together to give the building a traditional and cultural look.
The drainage pipes of this building is embedded into the exterior walls in order to maintain a smoother surface through the face of the wall. This shows that the building was carefully calculated in terms of the number of bricks and dimensions of the whole building.
