ARCH 1162 - "Bricks as Image" part 2 (17-27 Circular Quay West, The Rocks, Sydney, NSW)

The interior of this building is decorated with a brick touch however as we could see on the left hand side of the image, brick isnt the primary construction material. The main construction material looks like sandstone bricks.

The bricks within the building vary in colour and stand around the walls of the interior. They create a bond with the tile floors to provide a clay and stone image which presents customer to the restaurant with a rich and cultural atmosphere.

In this photo it could be seen the bricks were used with big sandstone blocks. The block were probally incorporated for support reasons. The bricks around were maintained in order to provide a consistent brick image.

There is an example of the brick layering in an arc across the window. The tiled segmental arch provides a beautiful touch to the exterior appearance of the building.

The brick work could be seen over the entire terrace. The consistency and rich touch of the bricks in the area amplifies the cultural atmosphere at the rocks.

From this building many different forms of brick work could be seen. From the interior to the exterior most of the building is covered with bricks.
The main type of bonding used is the English Styled bond. As we can see from the photos the bricks colour vary a lot unlike the building from before. This variety of colour is used for aesthetic purposes. It will be more attractive towards the eye compared to the dull single coloured buildings.
The interior of the building consist of masonry bricks and sandstone bricks. In the centre of the building sandstone bricks could be seen for support while side walls are primarily constructed from masonry bricks. It could also be seen that the brick work within the building had be repaired many times with different sized bricks and different types of bricks.
The arch style of the building is segmental arch. The shape of the arch reflects with the geometry of the window and the clay frames. The image will give the building a earth like feeling.
