ARCH 1162 - "Bricks as Image" part 9 (132 George Street, The Rocks, Sydney, New South Wales)

The Bricks in this building is partially structural related and mostly decorational. Again this building consist of both old and new bricks as shown in the images. They are very obvious through their clear difference in colour and in this case the mortar as well.
The building is relatively orthogonal and symmetrical which will be prove easy to build and very pleasing to the eye. It is also helped with the layering of colour. The contrast in dark and light continues throughout the building with the white mortar and the dark bricks and occasionally the white strip of concrete support.
This building doesn’t contain any arches through this exterior instead it uses concrete supports through the building. This feature emphasises the orthogonality of the building which makes it resemble a strong impenetrable fortress, hence the police station.
