ARCH1162 - "Bricks as Image" part 5 (55 George Street Sydney, 2000, Australia)

The Old Sydney Holiday Inn is covered brickwork however I think that the internal structure will be constructed with other materials such as steel or reinforced concrete. The flat brickwork which runs through the building makes it very orthogonal therefore it will create a pure and clean image.
The columns at the front of the building could be just brick decorated on the outside and in the interior of the column certain materials like steel or concrete could be present.
From the valet parking area we could see that there is a concrete slab there for the cantilevering section. Therefore it is another evidence to show that the brickwork in this building is mostly used for decoration purposes. The reason could be the fact that it will create a more cultural and traditional kind of atmosphere and at the same time it will blend in with the surroundings in terms of materials.
This building is a case of a new era building which adopted a very traditional look.
